NCDA partners with the World Food Programme (WFP) to manage warehouses in four key locations across Nasir County Nasir, Mading, Kiechkuon, and Dinkar/Kier where they oversee the storage, handling, and distribution of thousands of metric tons of food intended for vulnerable populations facing crisis and famine in the region.
This collaboration involves implementing WFP’s global standards for warehouse operations, ensuring safe and efficient receipt, storage, careful inventory management, and timely dispatch of food commodities while minimizing loss and maintaining accurate records for each shipment. By leveraging NCDA’s local expertise and WFP’s logistical and technical support, the partnership enables sustainable, responsive food aid distribution in even the most challenging circumstances, providing lifeline support to communities affected by conflict and recurrent humanitarian emergencies
Food for education (FFE)
NCDA, in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), has implemented a robust institutional feeding program in Nasir County, focusing on the Food for Education (FFE) initiative including School Meals (SM) and Girls’ Incentive (GI) modalities which reached over 70 schools every year and significantly improved nutritional status and school attendance among vulnerable children. Through this collaboration, nutritious meals and take-home rations fortified with essential micronutrients such as iron and vitamin A are regularly provided, with special emphasis on supporting girls, promoting educational goals, and addressing gender specific challenges in a region affected by severe food insecurity and conflict. The program relies on both in-school and take-home feeding, engages local cooks and community members, and targets schools with adequate WASH and kitchen facilities making a vital impact on the health, learning outcomes, and resilience of children throughout Nasir County.
general food distribution (GFD)
Over their seven-year partnership, NCDA and WFP have jointly delivered General Food Distribution (GFD) to thousands of vulnerable community members across Nasir County, seamlessly coordinating the delivery of staple food baskets by air, river, and road to populations facing acute hunger, displacement, and protracted crisis. This comprehensive operation involved careful needs assessment, registration, and targeting of affected households including internally displaced persons and returnees alongside the timely management of food commodities at distribution sites, with a focus on reaching remote and conflict-affected areas. Through regular distributions of life-saving rations, NCDA and WFP have played a critical role in preventing famine, mitigating malnutrition, and strengthening household resilience, consistently adapting their approach to address access constraints and sudden surges in humanitarian need throughout Nasir County
Food for Assets (ffa)
NCDA, in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), has successfully implemented the Food for Assets (FFA) initiative in Nasir County, engaging local communities in the creation and rehabilitation of vital infrastructure such as community farms, schools, and health centers. Through this program, food assistance is provided as an incentive to community members who actively participate in building and maintaining productive assets, fostering both immediate food security and sustainable livelihoods. Activities include the establishment of collective farming plots, the restoration of damaged schools and health facilities, and the mobilization of community labor, all aimed at enhancing resilience and social cohesion among populations affected by ongoing crises and food insecurity.
Tsfp/bsfp
NCDA, in partnership with WFP, has implemented both the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) and Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP) across Nasir County, reaching the most vulnerable groups such as children under five and pregnant or lactating women with life-saving nutrition support. Through TSFP, moderately malnourished children and women are identified through active community screening and receive specialized nutritious foods at local health centers, while BSFP provides preventative nutritional rations to entire at-risk populations during periods of high food insecurity. Community nutrition volunteers are engaged to conduct outreach, screening, and follow-up, ensuring that thousands of beneficiaries are supported with both treatment and preventive nutrition services that help address acute malnutrition and strengthen community resilience in an area frequently affected by humanitarian crisis
